So in my last post I mentioned that I’ve just completed a program called Tighter in 10 Days. Here’s the thing. I’m one of those people who needs a bit of a kick in the butt to get myself back into a routine. I also am a big fan of most things that are perceived as extreme. When I look back and reflect on the times in my life when I’ve really excelled, it’s always been when I’ve been challenged - by a teacher, a packed schedule, or by someone I’m competing with. It’s not uncommon for me to go on a juice fast for a few days if I think my food intake has been less than stellar and I feel like a need to hit a “reset button.” Instead of falling back on my usual routine of juice fasting for a few days and lengthening my yoga practice, I decided to give Tighter in 10 a try.
I’ll be perfectly honest here. It wasn’t easy. I hadn’t done workouts like these in a really long time and I was challenged. A day or two before I actually started the program, I watched the first video for about 10 minutes and thought they’d be a piece of cake. After all, I consider myself to be in decent shape. I’m certainly no professional athlete, but my yoga practice is pretty strong, I swim regularly and 45 minutes on the elliptical with high resistance is more of a mental challenge for me than a physical one. About seven minutes into the first workout I was already feeling the burn and sweating like a beast. Not “glistening” or “glowing,” but full on, just finished a hot yoga class sweating. I was absolutely challenged. Somehow in less than 45 minutes (and that’s with a bonus workout and cooldown) Liz manages to work your whole body. By the end of the ten days, I was noticeably stronger - pushups (my long time nemesis) were way easier!
The workouts themselves are great, but what I really loved about this program was the structure. I find that I (and many of my clients) really thrive when there is an element of structure in their lives. The program is laid out in a user friendly format. There’s a ten day calendar which tells you which workout to complete on each day and provides space for you to check if you’ve completed a bonus workout. It also tells you when to record your weight and measurements. Dietary suggestions are provided for which gives the program even more substance.
I’m really happy that I decided to give Tighter in 10 a shot. It works, and the results are noticeable. I’m down 6.5 pounds, two inches on my bust and hips, and an inch and a half on my waist. For less than two weeks, those results are pretty amazing. For me, more important than the numbers is the fact that I got that “kick in the butt” that I was looking for, and now I’m really determined to keep my momentum going. That to me is worth more than anything else.
xxoo,
Marietta
P.S. How do you guys get yourselves out of a rut?
